Groton Town police arrest Pennsylvania man on narcotics charges

Groton -- A Pennsylvania man was arrested Friday after Groton Town police detectives found him to be in possession of approximately 300 narcotic pills and more than $1,300 in cash at a Groton motel.

Joseph A. Carbone, 61, of Broadheadsville, Pa., was charged with possession of narcotics and possession of narcotics with intent to sell.

Police said the arrest was the result of a cooperative effort between the Regional Community Enhancement Task Force, which is comprised of police from southeastern Connecticut to combat the heroin epidemic, and the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation Police Department.

Town police said Mashantucket police developed information that Carbone was trafficking narcotic prescription pills from New York. Carbone was located by Groton detectives at the motel about 7:57 p.m.

He is scheduled to appear in New London Superior Court on May 18.
