    Parking restrictions announced for Coast Guard Academy graduation

    New London — Parking restrictions will be in place on Wednesday during the Coast Guard Academy graduation and visit from Vice President Mike Pence, the keynote speaker.

    The graduation starts at 11 a.m. at Cadet Memorial Field, 31 Mohegan Ave.

    The following parking restrictions will be in effect: Beginning at 5 a.m. there will be no parking on River Ridge Road, Deshon Street, Nameaug Avenue, Oneco Avenue, Farnsworth Street, Winchester Road and Uncas Avenue. No-parking signs will be posted and the restrictions will remain in effect until later in the day at the discretion of the police department. Parking tickets will be issued and vehicles towed for violations.

    Riverside Park also will be closed to the public beginning at 5 a.m.

    Members of the public will be allowed to assemble at the following locations: McKinley Park at the corner of Williams Street and Crystal Avenue; the grass parcel on Williams Street just past the overpass at Williams Street and Briggs Street; and the grass parcel located across the street from the main gate of the Coast Guard Academy, in front of the fence.

    Individuals will not be permitted to congregate past the main gate.
