Coast Guard searching for missing kayaker in area of Old Saybrook

Old Saybrook – The Coast Guard is searching for an 18-year-old male named William Zadrozny after an overturned kayak was located by a good Samaritan at the mouth of the Connecticut River near Old Saybrook around 5 p.m. Monday.

Zadrozny was last seen wearing work boots, a gray and yellow jacket, and jeans. The Coast Guard doesn't believe he was wearing a life jacket because a life jacket and fishing gear were found in the kayak.

The kayak is West Marine brand, about 12 feet long and black and green. The kayaker's father confirmed his son was planning to go out kayaking on Monday. The case is not related to the 21-year-old man and 20-year-old woman missing out of the Avery Point area.

Old Saybrook police and fire officials are on scene. The Old Lyme Police Department and Sea Tow, an aircraft from Coast Guard Station Cape Cod and a response boat from station New London are also searching.

Anyone with information is asked to call Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound at (203) 468-4401.
