Two men charged with first-degree assault in Norwich domestic violence incident

Norwich — Two local men were charged with assault following a domestic violence incident on McKinley Avenue Saturday, police said.

Norwich Police Lt. Tim Rykowski said the investigation is continuing and more arrests are expected to follow.

John Chambers, 41, of 92 Washington St. was charged with first-degree assault, first-degree criminal trespass, second-degree threatening, carrying a dangerous weapon, disorderly conduct and breach of peace.

Kevin Hunter, 48, of 34 McKinley Ave., Apt. 2, was charged with first-degree assault and breach of peace.

While first-degree assault is often associated with the use of a deadly weapon, Rykowski said no weapons were used. Rather, the first-degree assault charge was based on the incident being a group attack.

Rykowski said Chambers' charge for carrying a dangerous weapon was from an unrelated incident.
