Norwich — Police have identified the man whose body was discovered Wednesday morning near the railroad tracks in the vicinity of 245 Asylum St.

Jefferey S. Kulos, 29, of no certain address was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said in a news release Wednesday evening that he had sustained major trauma that appeared to have been caused by a train strike the previous night. No foul play was suspected, the release said.

Kulos' body was transported to the state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, where an autopsy was scheduled for Thursday morning, police said in the release.

The Norwich police Detective Division and Accident Reconstruction Team, an investigator from the state medical examiner's office and officials from the New England Central Railroad responded to the scene to investigate, the release said. Mini Melts USA Inc., an ice cream maker, is headquartered at 245 Asylum St. but the building itself sits at the end of Alms House Lane.
