Fire officials investigating fire in Norwich apartment building

Norwich — The Norwich Fire Marshal's Office is investigating a Wednesday morning fire that stemmed from the ceiling of a first-floor bathroom at 43-45 Fairmount St., the Norwich Fire Department said in a news release Thursday.

At 11:05 a.m. on Wednesday, the fire department was dispatched to 43-45 Fairmount St., a three-story apartment building with four units.

The fire involved the ceiling structure, wiring and vent unit, and it was under control at 11:40 a.m., according to the news release. Aside from the apartment where the fire originated, the other apartments sustained smoke damage.

Utilities were shut off and the Red Cross, with the assistance of Norwich Social Services, temporarily relocated the residents.
