Driver escapes car fire in New London

New London — A driver on southbound Interstate 95 escaped his car before it burst into flames after an accident Monday night, according to the New London Fire Department.
The car had struck a guardrail and was fully engulfed and leaking gasoline when firefighters arrived at the scene in front of Chili's Restaurant just after 9 p.m., according to a news release issued late Monday night. Foam was used to extinguish the fire.
One firefighter suffered minor injuries and was taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital.
