Norwich — State police have closed Interstate 395 northbound, as well as the left lane of 395 southbound, between exits 14 and 18, after a multivehicle accident involving a rollover.

The accident first was reported at 6:32 p.m., Yantic Fire Chief Frank Blanchard said. It involved four vehicles and "several people," he said. On their Twitter page, state police said the accident involved "serious" injuries, and advised motorists to find alternative routes through the area.

Police and firefighters remained at the scene investigating as of 10 p.m. and weren't expecting to leave for another hour and a half to two hours, Blanchard said.

In addition to state police and Yantic firefighters, American Ambulance and Occum Volunteer Fire Department responded.

No further information was immediately available.
