Police identify man who barricaded, killed himself in Groton apartment

Groton — City police have identified the man who died by suicide after barricading himself inside his 85 Crouch St. apartment Sunday.
Police identified the dead man as 68-year-old John T. Boyer. The state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner said he died of a gunshot wound to the head.
Police said they heard at least one gunshot when they arrived to the Peppertree Apartment Complex about 6 p.m. Sunday. They tried but failed to contact the reportedly despondent man inside. Police said a robot they deployed confirmed the man was dead.
His next of kin have been notified.
