Bond hearing continued to next week for defendant accused of narcotics trafficking

New Haven — A bond hearing for Anthony Whyte, one of the 12 defendants accused of allegedly trafficking narcotics as part of a local ring, was continued after his defense offered a new proposal for a custodian.

Whyte appeared briefly before U.S. Magistrate Judge Sarah Merriam in U.S. District Court in New Haven on Wednesday. His criminal defense lawyer, Jon Einhorn, said he was changing the proposed custodian for Whyte, after the federal government raised objections to the first proposal. The additional time will allow the federal government to review the new proposal.

The hearing was set for 2:30 p.m. March 13.

Whyte is facing federal charges of narcotics trafficking (including 5 kilograms or more of cocaine), conspiracy to traffic narcotics, use of a telephone to facilitate a narcotics felony, money laundering and conspiracy to commit money laundering, The Day has reported.

Ramel "Ra" General, Royshawn Allgood, Victor Encarnacion, Jeremy Sandborn, Benjamin Gregor, Oralyn Marquez, Antoine Forbes, Holly Butler, Kemar Cameron, Jackie Hernandez and Amy Sarcia, owner of 2Wives Brick Oven Pizza in New London, all have been charged in connection with the alleged ring, officials have said.

Documents in the federal case remained sealed as of Wednesday afternoon, according to Einhorn and Assistant U.S. Attorney Natasha Freismuth.
