DOC: Accused arsonist attacked correction officer with broomstick in Montville

Montville — A Corrigan-Radgowski Correctional Center inmate attacked a correction officer with a broomstick April 10, leaving the officer with neck, back and knee injuries and a cut on the face, the state Department of Correction said.

DOC spokeswoman Karen Martucci said other officers responded and “quickly subdued” Tyree Davis, 39, of Norwich.

Martucci didn’t say if the injured officer missed any work or if any other officers were injured.

State police investigated the case and charged Davis that day with second-degree assault, assault on a public safety officer and second-degree breach of peace.

Officials then transferred Davis to the maximum-security Northern Correctional Institution in Somers.

Davis has been in DOC custody since Jan. 25, 2018, when he was accused of intentionally setting fire to an occupied Central Avenue building two days earlier.

His charges in that case, which is pending, include criminal attempt to commit murder, first-degree arson, first-degree reckless endangerment and first-degree criminal mischief.

Records show Davis has nine other pending cases. He also has six criminal convictions for crimes including breach of peace, assault, threatening and failure to appear in court.

Davis is next due in court June 27.
