New London coach posts bond in school sex case

The New London track coach and paraprofessional who was arrested May 23 on a sexual assault charge posted a $150,000 bond Tuesday morning and left Superior Court with about 10 relatives and friends.

Jevon Elmore, 25, of 905 Bank St., a paraprofessional at Bennie Dover Jackson Middle School and head coach for the New London High School boys track team, was suspended from his job on May 10 after someone reported to the school's human resources office on May 10 that he had inappropriate interaction with a student.

New London police charged him this past Thursday with second-degree sexual assault. An arrest warrant affidavit with details of the charge will remain sealed at least through June 7 because of a continuing investigation.

Elmore, wearing a tan prison jumpsuit, appeared before Judge Hillary B. Strackbein on Tuesday morning to post his bond. Anthony Basilica Jr., who said he was representing Elmore for bond purposes only, said Elmore has no criminal record, is a New London resident and doesn't pose a flight risk. Basilica also said that he doesn't consider Elmore a threat to society.

Judge Strackbein reminded Elmore he is prohibited from contact with the alleged victim. She ordered Elmore to call in to the bail commissioner's office twice weekly while his case is pending and to report to the Alternative to Incarceration Center for random urine testing.

Elmore was suspended and arrested as part of an ongoing investigation by New London police stemming from the arrest of former middle school behavioral specialist Corriche Gaskin.

Gaskin is charged with sexually assaulting a middle school student and with recording and sharing sexually explicit videos on his cellphone during the 2016-17 school year. He remains incarcerated.
