Police: New London driver charged with DUI after car struck, pinned pedestrian

New London — Police charged a New London man with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs after they said his vehicle struck and pinned a pedestrian Tuesday night on Bayonet Street.
Officers arrested Michael Meare, 37, of 171 Montauk Ave. after they said his vehicle struck the pedestrian near the New London Mall entrance, Capt. Brian Wright said Wednesday.
The unidentified pedestrian was transported to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital and was listed in critical condition as of Wednesday morning, Wright added.
