East Lyme police arrest New Haven man after overnight pursuit

East Lyme — Town police said they arrested a New Haven man early Tuesday who was driving a stolen car and engaged Officer Bill Langman in pursuit when Langman attempted to pull him over on West Main Street.

Jeffery Jones, 19, was charged with second-degree larceny and engaging an officer in pursuit. He was held in lieu of a $15,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned later Tuesday at the Geographical Area 10 courthouse in New London.

According to a news release, Langman was conducting a routine patrol at 2:47 a.m. when he saw two cars with their headlights on behind Village Pizza at 53 West Main St.

As Langman pulled into the parking lot to investigate, both cars sped past him and ignored signals to stop, including activated lights and siren. Langman initiated a pursuit as the cars headed west on Route 156 and stopped one of the cars with the assistance of state police from Troop F and Old Saybrook police, according to the release.

The second vehicle, also stolen, later was recovered in the city of Hamden, police said.
