Norwich man faces drug charges after anonymous tips

Norwich — A motor vehicle stop involving a minor infraction led to the arrest of a local man on numerous narcotics charges Wednesday as part of an investigation into anonymous complaints of illegal drug activity in the area, police said.

Jonathan Fowler, 28, of 48 Lambert Drive was charged at 1:19 p.m. Wednesday with three counts of possession of narcotics, three counts of possession of narcotics with intent to sell and one count each of risk of injury to a minor and failure to use turn signal.

Police said the department’s narcotics and community policing units received numerous complaints made to the anonymous tip line regarding Fowler allegedly dealing fentanyl in and around the city.

During a motor vehicle stop, police officers allegedly located a large quantity of crack cocaine, fentanyl, along with over $3,200 in cash, and cocaine. Police said Fowler was driving the vehicle with the narcotics, and a female passenger and a 3-month-old baby also were in the vehicle. Police contacted the state Department of Children and Families regarding the incident.

During his arrest, police learned Fowler was on parole for a previous drug arrest in Norwich.

He was released on a $150,000 nonsurety bond for the new charges but remains in custody by Norwich police to be turned over to the state Department of Correction for allegedly violating the terms of his release.

Anyone with narcotics information is urged to call the Norwich police Narcotics Unit at (860) 886-5561, ext. 3153 or 3152.
