Norwich man charged with assault in stabbing incident

Norwich — A local man faces assault and other charges stemming from a stabbing in a domestic violence incident Tuesday evening on West Town Street, Norwich police say.

Mahmoud Ahmad-Alghanem, 40, of 44 W. Town St. was charged at 5:20 p.m. Tuesday with first-degree assault, breach of peace, second-degree threatening and first-degree unlawful restraint. He was held on a $100,000 bond and arraigned Wednesday in Norwich Superior Court.

Police said they were called to respond to a report of an assault victim near the Friendly’s restaurant on West Town Street. Police said the female victim suffered a stab wound that was not life-threatening and allegedly identified Ahmad-Alghanem as the attacker. He was located down the street a short time later, police said.
