    Fire damages Norwich home

    Norwich — No one was injured when a fire damaged a two-story home at 80 North St. Sunday morning.

    The city fire department said it was initially dispatched at 10:14 a.m. for a dryer fire. While en route they were advised the fire had spread to the home. When firefighters arrived, flames were coming out the windows. Firefighters went inside to search for residents. They found no one inside and there were no injuries to firefighters.

    Firefighters had the blaze under control in an hour. Mutual aid assistance was provided by the Yantic, Taftville, East Great Plains, Occum, Laurel Hill and Mohegan Tribal fire departments. The city fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire. Police along with the public works, utilities and building departments also responded to the fire. The American Red Cross is helping the displaced residents.
