One dead, one seriously injured in Westerly vehicle accident

Westerly — An accident involving a pickup truck and a motorcycle Saturday evening left one person dead, police say, and another person seriously injured.

The accident occurred shortly before 7:10 p.m. at Shore and Langworthy roads, police said in a news release issued late Saturday. Westerly police, Westerly Ambulance and Dunns Corners firefighters responded to the scene.

Arriving officers found a male and female, both of whom had been on the motorcycle, with serious injuries and provided emergency first aid until other first responders arrived, the release said.

The male was transported to Westerly Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The female was transported to the parking lot of the Walmart in Westerly, where a Life Star helicopter picked her up and transported her to R.I. Hospital Trauma Center. The driver of the pickup truck was not injured and was cooperating with authorities, the release said.

Their identities had not yet been released.

The Westerly police Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating. No further information was immediately available.
