Waterford firefighters respond to smoke at nursing home

Waterford — No residents were affected Sunday morning when a light ballast in an employee bathroom at Bayview Health Care overheated, creating a “light smoke condition,” according to a spokesperson.

Tim Brown, director of marketing and communications for Athena Health Care Systems, which owns Bayview, said employees “reacted quickly and appropriately by notifying the fire department” about 9:15 a.m.

Brown said no residents were evacuated or affected by the smoke.

“Bayview Health Center extends its gratitude for the quick and professional response from our fire department,” Brown said.

Jordan Fire Department referred a press inquiry to the Waterford Fire Marshal. The fire marshal could not be immediately reached on Sunday.
