Pawcatuck man severely burned in kitchen fire

Stonington — An 18-year-old man suffered severe burns in a kitchen stove fire at his 8 Richmond St. home late Thursday morning.

Pawcatuck Fire Chief Kevin Burns said a neighbor had taken the man to Westerly Hospital, which then alerted the man's father who in turn called the fire department at 11:23 a.m. The man was then transferred to Rhode Island Hospital. Burns said the fire was out when firefighters arrived.

Police Captain Todd Olson said Friday that police detectives and the state fire marshall are investigating the cause of the fire which is being termed accidental.
