Ledyard man charged in shooting that led to injury of 3-year-old

Ledyard — Police have arrested a 22-year-old Gales Ferry man on charges related to the discharge of a handgun inside his home that injured a 3-year-old boy.

Police said Austin Thibeault, 22, was charged in connection with a July 27 incident at his home at 6 Kerrie Court. The child sustained a serious hand wound due to the gunshot, police said. No further details were available from police.

Police secured a warrant for Thibeault’s arrest and Thibeault turned himself in on Monday. He faces charges of second-degree assault with a firearm, risk of injury to a child, first-degree reckless endangerment and criminally negligent storage of a firearm.

Free after posting a $35,000 court-set bond, Thibeault is scheduled to appear Dec. 1 in New London Superior Court.
