Red Cross helping one person after fire in New London

New London — The American Red Cross said it is helping one adult following a fire on Crystal Avenue on Thursday.

Firefighters were dispatched to 309 Crystal Ave at 1:38 a.m., New London Fire Battalion Chief Jonathan Paige said. A fire was discovered in the bathroom of a second-floor apartment, and one person was taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital. Paige said he didn't know the nature of the person's injuries.

He said the apartment is not habitable at this time, and the apartment below also was impacted by the fire.

The Red Cross said it provided a recovery envelope with tips on cleanup and dealing with damaged items, as well as personal care items such as toothbrushes and deodorant. Red Cross responders included Sue Bolen, Fred Bolen and Tim Rodgers.
