Norwich — A person whose identity has yet to be released died after a two-vehicle collision in the vicinity of Hunters and Mohegan Park roads late Thursday night, police said Friday morning.

City police, the Taftville Fire Department and American Ambulance responded to the accident shortly before 10:30 p.m.

It appears, police said, that one of the vehicles was turning off Mohegan Park Road while the other was traveling east on Hunters Road when they collided, causing significant damage to both vehicles. The driver of one of the vehicles was taken to Backus Hospital by ambulance and was pronounced dead a short time later, police said.

Occupants of the second vehicle, including the driver, were taken to Backus with minor injuries, police said.

Harland Road was closed to traffic for about two hours while police investigated the scene of the accident.

The name of the person who died is being withheld pending notification of relatives.
