Stony Creek Urgent Care Warns Against Heat

Dr. David Young from Stony Creek Urgent Care in Branford, CT is urging Shoreline residents and visitors to take warning during the high heat blast we are experiencing. The high heat combined with unhealthy air quality especially affects the very young and old as well as healthy and unhealthy folks.

Sunburn risk is high with UV indexes predicted to be between 8-10. Increased incidents of poison ivy and other rashes become rampant which spreads quickly when we sweat. Dr. Young encourages everyone to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and avoiding caffeinated and alcoholic beverages. Avoid direct sun during the hottest times of the day and in particular those with respiratory issues should seek air conditioning or cooling shelters.

Dr. Young goes on to advise that most often signs of heat related illness such as nausea, diarrhea, fatigue, etc do not appear for a couple of days once a heat wave starts. He also stresses that we should check in on elderly family and neighbors since they often do not recognize the symptoms until It's too late.
