Cowboys LG Kosier hurts knee, expected to miss 4-6 weeks

Dallas Cowboys left guard Kyle Kosier is expected to miss at least a month because of a sprained knee, making it two offensive linemen lost to injuries this week.

Two days after right tackle Marc Colombo had knee surgery, Kosier went down Wednesday morning. Although the club was still waiting for results of an MRI exam, coach Wade Phillips said it appears to be the same injury that's sidelined defensive lineman Marcus Spears for 4 to 6 weeks. That timeframe means he'll likely miss the opener and perhaps as many as the first three games. The Cowboys have a bye the following weekend.

"When it's not a season-ending injury it makes you feel better," Phillips said. "These guys are going to come back. We'd like to have them all right now, but we don't. That's part of what goes on. ... If it's similar to Spears, that'd be fine. If it's less than that, it'd be great."

Seahawks trade DE Jackson to Lions for 2011 draft pick

The Seattle Seahawks traded defensive end and former first-round pick Lawrence Jackson to the Detroit Lions on Wednesday for an undisclosed draft choice in 2011.

A day after Jackson admitted he was in limbo in Seattle, the Seahawks announced they had traded away their 28th overall selection in 2008. Seattle general manager John Schneider was not on the job when the Seahawks drafted Jackson out of Southern California.

Neither was Pete Carroll, Jackson's former coach at USC, or the rest of Seattle's defensive staff. They are installing schemes that call for ends to be run stuffers or fast pass rushers, and Jackson has so far proved to be neither.

    Redskins DT Haynesworth sidelined again

Washington Redskins defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth has been sidelined for another practice, this time with lingering effects from dehydration.

Haynesworth was a spectator again during Wednesday's workout. He stood to the side, flipping through the pages of a play book titled "Washington Redskins Defense 2010 Training Camp."

Bills FS Byrd out indefinitely with groin injury

Buffalo Bills starting safety Jairus Byrd is out indefinitely and could miss the season opener after having surgery for the third time in 13 months to repair a groin injury.

Coach Chan Gailey announced the news after the Bills arrived in Toronto on Wednesday, a day before they face Indianapolis in a preseason game. Gailey said it's unclear whether Byrd will be ready to play Sept. 12 when Buffalo opens the season against Miami.

Jets C Mangold returns to practice, no concussion

Jets center Nick Mangold has returned to practice after sitting out New York's preseason-opening game against the Giants with a headache, saying he doesn't believe he has a concussion

Mangold missed two days of practices last week after being struck in the temple by teammate Sione Pouha during a play. He practiced Saturday, but says he "didn't feel right" on Monday.
