    Syracuse sweeps Pawtucket in doubleheader

    Syracuse, N.Y. — Carlos Gomez doubled and singled, and Zach Lee allowed just four hits over 5 1/3 innings as the Syracuse Mets defeated the Pawtucket Red Sox 3-2 in the second game to sweep a doubleheader on Saturday.

    Lee (1-0) picked up the win after he struck out four while allowing one run.

    Syracuse started the scoring in the first inning. After leading off the inning with a double, Gomez advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt and then scored on a fielder's choice.

    After Syracuse added a run in the fourth on a home run by Travis Taijeron, the Red Sox cut into the deficit in the sixth inning when Jake Romanski scored on a forceout.

    The Mets tacked on another run in the sixth when Danny Espinosa hit a solo home run.

    Pawtucket saw its comeback attempt come up short after Jantzen Witte hit an RBI single, bringing home Rusney Castillo in the seventh inning to cut the Syracuse lead to 3-2.

    Ryan Weber (0-1) went six innings, allowing three runs and five hits while striking out three in the International League game.

    Corey Oswalt tossed a seven-hit complete game and Adeiny Hechavarria had three hits and three RBI, as Syracuse won the opener 5-2.

    Oswalt (2-0) allowed two runs while striking out six and walking one to get the win.

    Pawtucket grabbed a 2-1 lead in the third after Sam Travis hit a two-run single.

    Syracuse answered in the bottom of the inning, scoring two runs to take the lead for good. Todd Frazier hit an RBI double and then scored on a single by Hechavarria en route to the one-run lead.

    The Mets later tacked on two runs in the fifth when Hechavarria hit an RBI double and then scored on a single by Danny Espinosa to secure the victory.

    Josh A. Smith (1-1) went six innings, allowing five runs and eight hits in the International League game. He also struck out six and walked one.
