Fully Renovated Raised Ranch in Quaker Hill
By Gretchen A. Peck
The three-bedroom raised ranch at 14 Milton Rd., Quaker Hill, is on the market for $425,000. The sellers enlisted Erica Georgetti and Alexis John, the Next Level Team at RE/MAX in Uncasville, as their listing agents. They’re developers who’ve renovated houses in neighboring Rhode Island. This was their first project house in Connecticut, Georgetti told Welcome Home.
When they acquired the 0.56-acre property, they gutted the existing house, taking it down to the studs, the listing agent explained. It presented the opportunity to add new insulation, new windows and new mechanicals — electrical, heating and plumbing systems.
The owners also redesigned the 2,208 square feet of interior living space.
“They had a vision and completely brought it back to life,” she said. “It’s absolutely gorgeous.”
They were able to reconfigure the main-level floor plan to be more open-flowing, with the kitchen as a hub. Hardwood floors run throughout this level, which has two bedrooms, a full bath, the kitchen, and living and dining areas.
The center-island kitchen has stainless-steel appliances, granite countertops, a backsplash made of subway tiles, soft-close cabinets and recessed lighting.
The third bedroom is on the lower level, complemented by a full bath. It’s an expansive space, so it allows for some flexibility for the buyer. The sellers wanted to create a space that would be conducive to an “in-law suite.” If that private bedroom isn’t needed, the lower level might be used as a playroom, media room, exercise space or home office, perhaps. This finished space also affords access out to the attached one-car garage.
When the owners bought the home, there was a deck off the back, overlooking a span of lawn and a border of trees beyond it. The deck was in disrepair, so they rebuilt it entirely, choosing a low-maintenance composite materials for the flooring and railings. The new deck is large enough to accommodate seating, a grill and outdoor dining furnishings.
“It’s a very quiet neighborhood; however, you’re so close to everything. Route 32 is right there, but you’re far enough away that you have peace and quiet,” Georgetti said.
It’s just three miles to downtown New London and 15 minutes to downtown Mystic. The property is within convenient reach to local beaches, ferry and train transportation, the Naval Submarine Base in Groton, the casinos, Conn College and the Coast Guard Academy, and major employers, like Pfizer and General Dynamics/Electric Boat.
There are three Open House events planned at the house this weekend: On Friday, Dec. 9, from 3 to 5 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 10, from noon to 3 p.m.; and Sunday, Dec. 11, from 10 a.m. to noon.
