    Sound Advice 1-27-23

The timeline for selling a home, buying a new home and moving from one to the next can be tricky, particularly in terms of the settlement timeline. Coldwell Banker Realtor Jacqueline Hoyt offers some tips on how to manage the timing:

“As the seller, you may reach an agreement with the buyer to rent the home after settlement, until you can find and settle on your next home. When listing your home for sale, you may add the clause, ‘Subject to owners finding suitable housing.’ Consider incentivizing the buyer to accept the contingency by offering something in return, such as covering their closing costs. Or, you might try to schedule your closings close together as much as possible. A good Realtor, along with your closing attorney, can be very creative with listings terms and offers to keep both seller and buyer happy.”
