Living in Lisbon
By Gretchen A. Peck
Berkshire Hathaway Realtor Tanya McDermott introduced 530 River Road in Lisbon to the market this week. It’s a two-bedroom ranch, with two baths, 1,812 square feet of living space, a one-car garage, and a charming front porch.
Welcome Home spoke with the homeowner, Rosina Turano, about her time living here. She’d moved to the area to be closer to family nearby, and when she bought the house, it was in good condition. She recalled not needing to make any major improvements, but she did make a few design updates along the way. For example, she had the backyard fenced. She added a new shower to one of the bathrooms, and updated the kitchen.
The main level floor plan affords a living room, with a big picture window looking out to the front yard. The kitchen is quite spacious, with lots of counter space and room for a breakfast table.
In addition to new quartz countertops in the kitchen, the homeowner also replaced the sink with a deeper, larger undermount model, and she removed an electric stove and added a new gas-powered stove, which runs on propane.
The sunroom at the back of the house is the type of space that can be used year-round and in different ways. It might serve as a sitting room, a sunny spot to entertain guests, or an overflow dining area when entertaining. In Turano’s case, she was able to maintain tropical palm plants there—treasured plants she’s had for more than 20 years. They thrived in the sunroom, she reported.
Two bedrooms and a full bath round out the main level.
In the home’s lower level, there’s additional living space—perhaps used as a playroom or family room. Should a buyer require a home office, there’s room in the lower level to accommodate a desk, complete with built-in shelving above it.
The homeowner also suggested that, with some modification, there’s the potential to create a third bedroom in the lower level.
Back upstairs, in the sunroom, buyers will find a double set of exterior doors—French doors that open to screened sliders, which allows for airflow and easy access out to the backyard. With 1.3 acres of land—much of it behind the house—the backyard has plenty of room for seating and dining furnishings and grilling equipment. A buyer might also add a fire pit to gather ‘round.
“All spring, the trees along the back of the yard flower, one after the other,” the homeowner said.
This Lisbon address places the next owner with easy reach of state parks, the casino resorts, and the region’s largest employers.
“Just a few miles down the road, there are two shopping centers, a Home Depot, a Walmart, Lowe’s, Aldi, a pet store, and a bunch of other stores. It’s very easy to do your shopping,” Turano said. She also recalled easy travel to area destinations, like Mystic and Westerly, Rhode Island, and to Massachusetts to the north.
“What’s nice is that none of these places require a long drive,” she said.
Editor’s Note: At deadline, the seller had accepted an offer for the property; however, back-up offers may still be accepted. Buyers’ agents may wish to inquire with the listing agent.
