    Happy to live in Ledyard

    To the Sports Editor:

Day columnist Mike DiMauro recent asked "Why Ledyard?" recently. As parents of two Ledyard graduates and a third child heading to LHS, the answer is easy: the schools.

Caring, talented and resourceful teachers and administrators provide abundant opportunities in Ledyard. Our children have enjoyed challenging academic courses and electives in engineering, technology, music, art, languages, and drama. We have cheered our kids at soccer, basketball, tennis, cross-country, track and fencing meets and applauded their efforts at competitions and concerts. They have attended numerous field trips. We pay the extra money needed for these experiences without complaint.

Our two oldest were accepted to their chosen colleges and are enjoying success.

Ledyard is a rural community whose leaders struggle to balance financial concerns with needs of its citizens. We are not the only area town with this problem. We implore our fellow parents and citizens to vote in favor of this year's budget in the upcoming referendum on May 20th to continue the academic excellence and opportunities Ledyard schools offer.

The bottom line is it truly does take a village to raise a child. We're just glad that Ledyard is the village that has helped us raise ours.
