Waterford Legion eliminated from Northeast Regional

Worcester, Mass. – Troy McPherson pitched a complete game six-hitter as Greece (N.Y.) ended Waterford’s season with a 5-2 victory on Friday in an elimination game of the American Legion Northeast Regional baseball tournament at Fitton Field.

Waterford, which replaced state champion Danbury as the Connecticut representative in the eight-team, double-elimination field after Danbury opted out due to a lack of players, finished 1-2.

Waterford’s season included winning Zone 6 and Connecticut Bristol Super Regional championships.

McPherson walked one and struck out nine, losing his shutout when Waterford leadoff hitter Preston Tabor hit a solo home run with one out in the sixth. Waterford tacked on its final run in the seventh when Evan McCue singled, took second when Anthony Jessuck walked, and scored on a base hit by Brian Ingraham.

Bebo Martinez went 2-for-3 to lead the Waterford offense while Connor Sackett and James Cappellupo had three hits apiece for Greece, a suburb of Rochester.
