    Ledyard Football Hall of Fame to induct five new members

    Ledyard — Five former players will be inducted into the 11th annual Ledyard High School Football Hall of Fame during halftime of the Colonels’ game against Montville on Friday, Oct. 28, at 6 p.m.

    Honorees include Gary Pendleton II (Class of 1994), Matt Llewellyn (2008), Chris Blomstedt (2009), Dallas Smith (2012) and Luke Saccone (2016).

    “We are fortunate to have an outstanding group of individuals whom all contributed to Ledyard High School football as well as to our athletic program in general,” athletic director Jim Buonocore said in releasing the list of honorees. “Each inductee brings an amazing list of accomplishments with them, including being multiple sport athletes. I look forward to welcoming this class, along with their family and friends, back home in October.”

    • Gary Pendleton II starred as a wide receiver, defensive back and kick/punt returner. He was a two-time All-ECC and All-Area performer and helped lead the Colonels to the 1993 state championship. Pendleton was named all-state as a senior and also played baseball, where he continue his baseball career at Manchester Community College. He currently serves as an account executive for IT Support and Services in Cromwell.

    • Matt Llewellyn was an offensive tackle on the 2007 state championship football team. He received the athletic booster club award for outstanding academics, leadership and performance during his senior year and was a member of the National Honor Society. Llewellyn was also a member of the state championship wrestling team. He continued his football career at Bryant University, graduating in 2013 with a master’s degree in business administration. Llewellyn currently serves as Client Relationship Specialist in Massachusetts.

    • Chris Blomstedt was an All-ECC, All-Area and All-State linebacker who played in two consecutive state championship games. He also earned All-ECC and all-state recognition in lacrosse. He played both sports at Carnegie Mellon University, and is the founder and owner of Portal Sneaker and Streetwear Boutique located at the Mohegan Sun.

    • Dallas Smith starred as a tight end and linebacker, earning All-ECC, All-Area and all-state honors after leading the Colonels to the 2011 ECC title and state championship game. He was also a member of the state championship wrestling team. He continued his football career at Plymouth State and currently serves as a terminal operations manager for U.S. Pack Logistics while residing in Rhode Island.

    • Luke Saccone is one of the most decorated players in Ledyard history. He was a three-year starter as a defensive back, wide receiver and punter/kicker while leading the Colonels to three consecutive state playoff appearances and one state final. He was named to the prestigious Walter Camp all-state football team as well as being named All-ECC and All-Area. Saccone was The Day Football Player of the Year in 2015. Saccone also starred for the indoor track and baseball teams before attending Michigan State and earning a journalism degree. He is currently a producer for News Center Maine. Saccone resides in Freeport, Maine.
