    H.S. cross country roundup: NFA boys sweep tri-meet a home

    Norwich – Norwich Free Academy swept a tri-meet against Fitch and Stonington in a boys’ cross country meet at Mohegan Park on Tuesday.

    The Wildcats (4-0, 1-0) defeated Fitch 18-43 in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I meet and beat Stonington 20-43. Fitch beat Stonington 23-37 to earn a split.

    Ryan Gruczka won individual honors for the Bears (0-4), winning the race in 17 minutes, 15 seconds. NFA took five of the top seven spots with Ethan Manfredi placing second (17:48), Patrick Croughwell third (18:11), Jessie Croteau fifth (18:24), Ashton Croteau sixth (18:27) and Sawyer Barile seventh (18:30).

    Ryan Dunning finished fourth (18:24) for the Falcons (1-3, 0-1).

    In other meets:

    • East Lyme’s Brendan Fant (16:59) and Nathan Bergman (17:24) finished 1-2 as the Vikings swept a home quad-meet at Rocky Neck State Park. East Lyme (5-0, 1-0) defeated Woodstock Academy 22-37 in an ECC Division I meet and added wins over Ledyard (22-37) and and Tourtellotte (15-50). Ledyard (3-2) defeated Tourtellotte (25-50) but lost to Woodstock (26-29). Hayden Baber finished fourth (17:33) for the Colonels and Jack Hill was sixth (17:46).

    • Montville rode the 1-2-3 finish of Dylan Horkey (14:39), Jack Brehler (15:39) and Nicholas James (15:48) to a 15-50 win over St. Bernard in an ECC Division III meet. Montville is 2-1, 2-0. Maddox Roan finished fourth (15:50) for the Saints (0-2, 0-1).

    • Ryan Moores, Carson Brown, Brendan Reas and Aaron Fidrych went 1-2-3-4 as Bacon Academy swept a quad-meet at Harkness Memorial State Park. Moores finished in 16:46 as the Bobcats (4-1, 1-1) beat Waterford 22-35 in an ECC Division II meet while beating Wheeler 16-45 and New London 15-50. Waterford (2-3, 0-2) defeated Wheeler 17-46 and New London 15-50 while Wheeler (1-2, 1-0) beat New London 15-50. Luke Bartlett finished fifth for Waterford while Trevor Scarhilli was eighth for Wheeler and Jamir Hill 15th for New London (0-3, 0-1).

    • Lyman Memorial defeated Windham 15-50 in an ECC Division III meet. Hunter Sanchez finished second for the Bulldogs (3-0, 2-0) in 21:58 while Kyle Franchi was third (22:41), Oliver Gatti fourth (22:51) and Ryan Dungan fifth (23:11).

    Girls

    • Maya Suarez won individual honors in 17:04 as Montville edged St. Bernard 25-30 in an ECC Division III meet. Helen Coury finished second (17:45) and Mia Klewin fourth (19:17) for the Saints (1-2, 0-1) while Jaisey Galvin placed third (18:32) for Montville (2-1, 2-0), Sage Gressley fifth (20:14) and Chloe Hammer sixth (21:06).

    • Lyman Memorial swept the top five spots in its 15-50 ECC Division III win over Windham. Hazel DeLucia won in 22:26 for the Bulldogs (1-2, 1-1) and was followed by Sylvie Hiltz (23:55), Kaya Osga (23:56), Genevieve Gardella (25:40) and Larhamie McKusick (27:05).

    • NFA swept Fitch and Stonington, defeating the Falcons 15-50 in an ECC Division I meet and the Bears 15-50. Eliana Duclos was the individual winner in 21:25 for the Wildcats (4-0, 1-0) with Anna Ricketts placing third (25:01), Anna Gosselin fourth (25:56) and Molly Mussleman fifth (26:09). Peyton Vanderstreet finished second (24:14) for Stonington (2-1) while Mariel Robbin was sixth (26:34) for Fitch (0-3, 0-1), which did not score against Stonington.

    • Waterford swept the top three places and swept a four-way meet at Harkness Memorial State Park. The Lancers (4-1, 2-0) defeated Bacon Academy 20-25 in an ECC Division II meet and defeated Wheeler 17-44 and New London 15-50. Bacon (3-2, 0-2) beat New London 15-50 and Wheeler 19-42 while Wheeler defeated New London 15-50 in an ECC Division IV meet. Avery Maiese finished first for Waterford in 20:39 followed by teammates Ava Lee (21:54) and Madison LaForte (21:57). Theresa Mathieu finished fourth (22:43) for Bacon, Lucy Smith was fifth (23:17) for Wheeler (1-3, 1-0) and Oliva Crane-Benjamin was sixth (23:27) for New London (0-3, 0-1).

    • East Lyme defeated Woodstock 23-32 in an ECC Division I meet at Rocky Neck State Park and completed a sweep of the quad meet with wins over Ledyard (22-36) and Tourtellotte (15-50). Woodstock also beat Ledyard (25-33) and Tourtellotte (15-50) while the Colonels beat Tourtellotte 15-50. Ledyard’s Kate Littler was the individual winner in 21:02, edging East Lyme’s Kennedy Holsapple by a second. Aranza Torres finished third (21:17) and Kayleigh Jensen fourth (21:21) for the Vikings (5-0, 1-0) while Ella Stephenson was fifth (21:26) for Ledyard (3-2).
