Bacon Academy at Ledyard, 6 p.m.

Records: Bacon (0-2, 0-0 ECC Div. II); Ledyard (2-0, 0-0)

Last week: Bacon lost to Montville 38-28; Ledyard defeated Griswold/Wheeler 37-13

Outlook: Ledyard is among state leaders, having scored 96 points in two games. The run-dominant Colonels pose a different challenge for Bacon than pass-first Montville did last week. Either way, Bacon must do better, having allowed six touchdown passes and 336 passing yards. The good news: Bacon produced 28 points, more in one game than it did all last season.

Griswold/Wheeler at Weaver, 6 p.m.

Records: Griswold/Wheeler (1-1, 0-0 ECC Div. III); Weaver (0-2, 0-0)

Last week: Griswold/Wheeler lost to Ledyard 37-13; Weaver lost to Woodstock, 47-0

Outlook: It’s been a slow start for Weaver, a football-only member of the Eastern Connecticut Conference, and multiple time state championship coach Jude Kelly. The Beavers have scored 14 and allowed 83 in their first two games. The Wolverines started quickly, dispatching Northwest Catholic before losing last week to Ledyard.

Thames River at Plainfield, 6 p.m.

Records: Thames River (1-0); Plainfield (0-1)

Last week: Thames River defeated Bullard Havens/Kolbe 34-6; Plainfield was idle

Outlook: This is a state scheduling alliance game between the Crusaders of the Connecticut Technical Conference and Plainfield, an ECC member in all sports except football, playing an Independent schedule this season. Thames River’s Ryan Outlow and Seth Cunningham rushed for more than 200 yards combined last week.

Stonington at New London, 6 p.m.

Records: Stonington (0-2); New London (0-2)

Last week: Stonington lost to Waterford 35-13; New London lost to Fitch 47-6

Outlook: The good news: Barring a tie, somebody is going to win this game. The Whalers, despite the lopsided score last week, moved the ball well at times, but hurt themselves with four lost fumbles. Both teams are within a few points of each other in offense over the first two weeks (Stonington has scored 27 points to New London’s 20) and defense as the Bears have allowed 75 and New London 88.

Montville at Quinebaug Valley, 6 p.m.

Records: Montville (1-1); Quinebaug Valley (2-0)

Last week: Montville defeated Bacon 38-28; Quinebaug Valley defeated O’Brien Tech 7-0.

Outlook: Montville snapped a 17-game losing streak last week, using quarterback Tyler Ladia’s 336 passing yards and six touchdown passes. Five of them went to Isaiah Balancier, who moved into the state record books (14th overall) with 275 receiving yards in one game. Quinebaug, a member of the CTC, has yet to allow a point, blanking Plainfield and O’Brien Tech.

Morgan at Valley/Old Lyme, 6:30 p.m.

Records: Morgan (1-1,1-1 Pequot Sassacus); Valley (2-0, 2-0)

Last week: Morgan defeated Haddam-Killingworth, 30-23; Valley defeated Coginchaug 61-12

Outlook: DiAngelo Jean-Pierre scored four touchdowns last week for the Warriors, catching two touchdown passes, rushing for a third and returning an interception 75 yards for his fourth score. Jake Rand rushed for two touchdowns and returned a kickoff 75 yards for another.

Berlin at Fitch, 6:30 p.m.

Records: Berlin (2-0); Fitch (2-0)

Last week: Berlin defeated RHAM 47-6; Fitch defeated New London 47-6

Outlook: This is among the state’s best matchups in week three. Fitch’s Melakai Maddox ran 178 yards and two touchdowns, returned a fumble 57 yards for a touchdown and returned an interception 47 yards for a touchdown last week to keep the Falcons undefeated. Berlin, coached by Joe Aresimowicz, the former speaker in the Connecticut House of Representatives, used three scores from Elijah Santos (including a 63-yard touchdown reception) to throttle RHAM and stay unbeaten.

NFA at Glastonbury, 6:30 p.m.

Records: NFA (0-2); Glastonbury (2-0)

Last week: NFA lost to Killingly 56-6; Glastonbury defeated East Hartford 35-14

Outlook: It has not been the start new coach Erik Larka envisioned at NFA with home losses to Wilton and Killingly. But nobody can deny the Wildcats play one of the state’s most difficult schedules. Up next: undefeated Glastonbury, which has allowed but 27 points in two games.

East Lyme at Law, 7 p.m.

Records: East Lyme (0-2); Law (2-0)

Last week: East Lyme lost to Windham 47-19; Law defeated Bassick 48-0

Outlook: The schedule maker has been rather nasty to the Vikings. They opened at perennial power Hand and played at home last week against Windham, which returns most of its players from last season. This weekend’s reward: a road game at Law, which has outscored its opponents 94-0 this far.

SATURDAY’S GAME

Rocky Hill at Waterford, 6 p.m.

Records: Rocky Hill (1-1); Waterford (1-1)

Last week: Rocky Hill defeated Northwest Catholic 27-6; Waterford defeated Stonington 35-13

Outlook: This is what the state scheduling alliance envisioned: Two public schools of similar enrollment playing a game. Both rebounded from disappointing opening weeks with impressive wins last week. Waterford quarterback Nate Hynes has thrown for four scores and run for two in the first two weeks.
