    Local college roundup: Conn College men beat Coast Guard for sixth straight win

    New London — Connecticut College won its sixth straight game with an 81-63 victory over rival Coast Guard Academy in a men’s basketball game on Wednesday night at Luce Field House.

    The Camels (6-1) never trailed ane were led by RJ Casey and David Murray. Casey scored a season-high 21 points, including five 3-pointers, while Murray finished with 20 points on 9-for-10 shooting with five rebounds and five blocked shots.

    Cameron Brown off the bench led the Bears (1-5) with 21 points and nine rebounds while Mitch Shettles and Trevor Parks added 12 points apiece.

    In other games:

    • Mitchell College won its sixth straight, beating Rhode Island College 72-70 on Tuesday night. Waterford’s Mikey Buscetto led the Mariners (6-1) with 18 points, five rebounds, three assists and five steals. Jalen Benson of New London had 11 points, eight rebounds, four assists and four steals, Alfonzo Stokes scored 15 and Wilton Causey had 11 points.

    Women’s basketball

    • Trinity College outscored Coast Guard 38-24 in the second half to pull away for a 67-45 victory. Reilly Campbell led the Bantams (3-1) with 18 points and nine rebounds while Kira Wood finished with 14 points for the Bears (1-4) and Kelly Hagerty added 11.

    • Dede Stevenson had 19 points, six rebounds and five assists as Mitchell College beat Lasell 81-42 on Tuesday night. Tania Williams had 11 points for the Mariners (3-2).

    Men’s hockey

    • No. 8 UConn beat No. 12 Merrimack 3-1 on Tuesday night. Samu Salminen, Jake Percival and Nick Capone scored goals for the Huskies (11-3-3) and Arsenii Sergeev made 28 saves.
