    UConn’s Christian Haynes named an All-American in football

    Storrs – UConn reshirt junior offensive lineman Christian Haynes became the first Husky since 2010 to earn All-American honors after being named to the Associated Press and Sporting News 2022 All-American teams. Haynes was a second team All-American choice by the Sporting News and a third team selection by the AP, it was announced this week.

    Haynes is just the third Husky in the FBS era to garner All-American honors and the first since running back Jordan Todman was tabbed a first team choice by the Sporting News in 2010 as well as earning a spot on the AP (2nd team) and Walter Camp Foundation (2nd team). In 2008, running back Donald Brown became UConn’s first All-American since joining FBS, also being named to the first team by the Sporting News and second team by the Associated Press and the Walter Camp Football Foundation.

    The Husky offensive guard anchored the UConn offensive line and running game in 2022. Haynes, along with rest of his linemates, started all 12 games this season and helped fuel a rushing attach the enters the postseason ranked 32nd in the NCAA averaging 194.9 yards per game. The Huskies went over 200-yards plus rushing in six games and three-straight to close out the season. UConn’s high mark on the season was a 295-yard effort in a 33-12 win at FIU. The Huskies had six 100-yard rushing games from four different running backs this season.

    Haynes, who has started 36-straight games over the last three seasons, also led a unit that ranked 30th nationally in sacks allowed, giving up 17 on the season, just 1.42 per game.

    He and the rest of his UConn teammates are headed back to a bowl game for the first time since the 2015 season as they are preparing to take on the Marshall Thundering Herd in the Myrtle Beach Bowl on Monday, December 19 at 2:30 pm on ESPN.
