    Local roundup: Dimock leads Fitch past Plainfield

    Groton – Gabby Dimock had 18 points and nine rebounds as Fitch beat Plainfield, 48-28, in a girls’ basketball game on Friday

    . Dre’Ana Singleton had 12 points, four assists and four steals, Mariette El Khoury scored 14 and Ada Ellis and Meleeya Robbins had six rebounds each for Fitch (3-1).

    In other games:

    • Lyman Memorial took a 22-2 lead after one quarter and went on to beat Old Lyme 58-29. Jenny Lopez had 11 points, nine assists, nine rebounds and six steals, Taylor Pankowski had 12 points and four steals, Phoebe Carpenter had 13 rebounds and two blocks and Juliana Haynes had 10 points and seven rebounds for Lyman (3-3). Ava Roth had 10 points and Sybil Neary scored nine for Old Lyme (1-4).

    • Norwich Tech lost to Westbrook 38-21. Olivia Luurtsema led Norwich Tech (1-4) with five points.

    • Stonington lost to Chariho (R.I.) 59-41 in the consolation game of the Westerly tournament on Thursday night. Katelyn Cadmus had 24 points and nine rebounds and Emily Obrey had 13 points and 13 rebounds for the Bears (1-4).

    H.S. boys’ basketball

    • Smithfield (R.I.) beat Fitch 42-32 in the championship game of the Fitch Holiday tournament. Mike Wagner led Fitch (4-2) with 11 points. Cheney Tech beat Ledyard 63-59 in the consolation game. Peyton Luther scored 15 for Ledyard (0-5).

    • Waterford lost to Hall in overtime, 52-50. Evan Piotrowski scored 14 points, Joan Morel Jr. had 13 rebounds and three blocked shots and CJ Landry had 13 points and nine rebounds for the Lancers (1-5).

    • St. Bernard lost to Northwest Catholic 59-58. Cedrick Similien led the Saints (4-2) with 16 points, Amyre Gray scored 15 and Tyson Wheeler had 13 points.

    H.S. wrestling

    • Fitch went 3-1 at the Windham Duals, getting four pins each from senior Luca Ursini at 132 pounds and senior Nazier Matthews at 220 and 285 combined, while Waterford edged East Lyme Norwich Tech 41-40 via tiebreaker and finished the day 2-2.

    In pool play, Fitch defeated Waterford 42-39, East Lyme/Norwich Tech 42-41 and lost to Guilford 53-25. The Falcons then topped Rockville in the third-place match 48-34. Sophomore Marco Ursini added three pins and a major decision for Fitch and freshman Shad Stewart added three pins at 138 pounds.

    For Waterford, Brody Ruest (120 pounds) and Lucas Gannotti (145) each won four matches, earning three pins apiece, as the Lancers topped East Lyme/Norwich Tech and E.O. Smith (48-24) and lost to Fitch (42-39) and Guilford (54-30).

    Waterford’s Adam Balfour (132 pounds) and Devon Powers (170) had pins for Waterford against East Lyme. Waterford led 40-35 before East Lyme’s Brayden Soleau won his 182-pound match by technical fall, 15-0, to deadlock the score at 40. Joseph Morse (138), Lincoln Carlson (160) and Brandon Rebelo (195) had pins for East Lyme.

    Against Fitch, East Lyme’s Gianno Pearson (120), Anthony Caisse (145) Kevin Filewich (170), Soleau (182) and Jonathan Harms (195) had pins.

    Men’s basketball

    • Andrew Hartel was 6-for-6 from the line in overtime as Connecticut College beat Piedmont 69-67 in the consolation game of the Emory Holiday Classic. Hartel scored eight of his 12 points in the overtime period and teammate Elias Espinosa made a 3-pointer.

    Billy Whelan scored 20 points, David Murray had 10 points and nine rebounds, Cam Schainfeld had five assists, Jarron Flynn had nine rebounds and Espinosa had eight rebounds for Conn (9-4).

    • Coast Guard lost to Community College of New York, 75-65, in the consolation game of the Western Connecticut State tournament. Ben Yagey had 14 points and six rebounds, Abe Countryman scored 12 and Trevor Parks had seven rebounds for Coast Guard (2-9).

    Women’s basketball

    • Kira Wood had 23 points and Jacqueline Ward scored 19 as Coast Guard beat Salem State 92-69. Kelly Hagerty had 13 points, Glory Blethen had nine rebounds, Wood had five assists and Ward had seven rebounds for the Bears (5-6).

    • Amina Wiley had 24 points and nine rebounds as Mitchell College beat Fitchburg State 92-44. Sam McKenna had 17 points and five rebounds and New London’s Jamya Beddoe scored 19 points for the Mariners (4-7).

    Men’s hockey

    • Hudson Schandor scored in overtime as UConn beat Long Island University 2-1 on Thursday night. Freshman Arsenii Sergeev made 29 saves and Andrew Lucas had a first-period goal for the Huskies (12-5-3).
