    H.S. wrestling roundup: East Lyme/Norwich Tech goes 4-1 at Jonathan Law Duals tourney

    Milford — Lincoln Carlson (160 pounds), Brayden Soleau (182) and Jackson Hart (220) each went 5-0 with five pins Saturday as the East Lyme/Norwich Tech wrestling team finished 4-1 at the Jonathan Law Duals.

    East Lyme defeated Bethel 42-36, Masuk 45-30, Law 46-36 and St. Joseph 48-36, falling to Foran 51-30. Jackson Lin (285) and Jacob Bookmiller (170) had four pins each for East Lyme (7-5) and J.J. Morse (138) had three.

    In other matches:

    • Ledyard had a pair of place-winners at the Bristol Central Invite. Tatianna Irizzary (106) defeated Hall’s Michael Ortiz, the top seed, 7-4 in the championship final while Joseph Crader (126) finished fourth. Irizarry also beat the No. 2 seed in the semifinals and Bristol Central officials said Irizzary was the first femal wrestler to win an individual title since the tournament began in 1981.

    • Montville had two individual champions and Old Lyme one in the Warrior Invitational at Canton. Montville’s Adrian Adams decisioned Barlow’s Sophie Brault 7-1 in the 106-pound final, teammate James Linder pinned Nonnewaug’s Kayden Guillet in 1:36 in the 138 final and Old Lyme’s Stefan Ryer pinned Canton’s Brody Grecula in 2:55 in the 195 final.

    Montville finished fifth (142) and Old Lyme 10th (83) in the team standings (Nonnewaug won with 199). Also for Montville, Luke Chapman (145) and Jayven Williams (285) finished second, and Karla Flores (113), Christian Hall (126) and William Klinefelter (160) finished fourth. Old Lyme’s Hoshena Gemme (113) and Alain Pecher-Kohout (138) added thirds while Olivier Avelange (152) placed sixth.

    • Kaiden Smith (220) won an individual title and lifted New London to a fifth-place finish at the Chad Antoch Memorial Tournament at Westerly. Smith pinned Dason Jones of Coventry (R.I.) in 5:54 as the Whalers finished with 98 points. Central (R.I.) won the team title with 194. New London has had three third-place finishers with Jose Negron-Ortiz (106), Andy Martinez-Soliz (120) and Henry Santana-Liriano (285) all pinning their opponent in the consolation final.

    • Three local wrestlers captured individual titles during the annual Casey Yates Invite at Lyman Memorial. Lyman/Windham Tech’s Nehemiah Czelusniak won the 132 title with a 15-0, technical fall win over RHAM’s Gavin Plourde, Griswold/Wheeler’s Jesse Costley (145) defeated Stafford’s Logan Wolf by technical fall, 16-1, and Fitch’s Naszier Matthews (285) earned a 12-1 major decision over Rockville’s Colin Yarusewicz.

    LM/WT was the top local team finisher in sixth with 116.5 points. RHAM edged Killinglyi 198-186 for the team title with Haddam-Killingworth edging Windham for third, 141-139.5. Lyman’s other place-winners were Cameron Sammarco (2nd, 170), Timothy Breault (3rd, 285), Hunter Sanchez (4th, 120) and Vicente Gauvin (4th, 195).

    Griswold/Wheeler’s Seth Christie (106) finished second while Stonington’s Cooper Light (170) was third and Bacon Academy had two place-winners, Carson Brown (3rd, 152) and Dante Colello (4th, 170).

    • Zachary Ruest won three matches at 182 pounds despite Waterford’s 0-4 finish at the East Haven Duals. Waterford lost to Stratford (61-18), East Haven (61-18), Trumbull (75-6) and Glastonbury (72-6). Ruest earned three pins on the day for the Lancers (3-8), while Brody Ruest (120 pounds) and Lukas Turner (160) had two wins apiece.
