    Local roundup: Buscetto helps Mitchell men rally past Trinity

    New London — Waterford’s Mikey Buscetto had a game-high 31 points and nine assists as the Mitchell College men’s basketball team rallied from a 12-point halftime deficit to beat Trinity College 86-77 on Wednesday night.

    The Mariners (12-3) outscored the Bantams 56-35 in the second half.

    New London’s Jalen Benson had 15 points, six rebounds and five assists for the Mariners and Alfonzo Stokes added 15 points, five assists and four steals.

    In other games:

    • Justin Menard had 22 points and six rebounds as St. Thomas More beat Newman 89-84. Tyler Betsey added 20 points and seven rebounds for T-More.

    • Daryl Costa led Springfield with 23 points, five rebounds and four assists in its 85-73 win over Coast Guard Academy in the New England Men’s and Women’s Athletic Conference. Elijah Parent had 14 points, four rebounds and three assists, Declan Rooney had 16 points and five rebounds and Abe Countryman scored 15 for Coast Guard (4-12, 2-3).

    Women’s basketball

    • Kamsi Nwogu had a game-high 17 points and 15 rebounds as MIT used a strong second half to beat Coast Guard, 70-66, in a NEWMAC game. The Engineers outscored the Bears in the second half, 43-24. Farrah Peterein had 14 points for Coast Guard (8-8, 1-1) and Julia Mann and Dorothy Stotts both scored 11.

    H.S. boys’ basketball

    • Fairfield Prep outlasted Norwich Free Academy 65-64 in a non-conference game. Tony Williams led the Wildcats (4-6) with 16 points while Ethan Hernandez added 13 and Camron Barboza 10.

    • Freshman Jadiel Thomas scored 17 points, including 5-for-5 from the 3-point line, during the Williams School’s 67-40 loss to Watkinson. Ben Xenelis added nine points and Sam Kaplan added eight points and five assists.

    H.S. girls’ basketball

    • Julia Knowles had 16 points, nine rebounds and six assists as Waterford topped St. Bernard 58-22. Lucy Walker scored 15 and Audrey Steward added 12 points for Waterford (4-6). Angelica Tompkins scored 15 for the Saints (6-5).

    • Helena Robinson had 10 points and 13 rebounds in Ledyard’s 49-35 win over Plainfield. Kiera Kirvan scored 13 for Ledyard (7-5), which has won seven straight, and Adrianna Hardison added 10.

    • Izzy Pazzaglia scored 15 of her 17 points in the second half to help East Lyme beat East Granby 50-44. Rilynn Pollard scored nine for East Lyme (4-9).

    • King School defeated Williams 41-26 as Lucy Fader, Marlee Anselmi and Ally Lacobeliis scored six points apiece for the Blues.

    H.S. wrestling

    • New London took over sole possession of first place in the Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I race with a 41-33 victory over East Lyme/Norwich Tech. The unbeaten Whalers (4-0, 2-0) picked up pins from Christian Ortiz (152), Kaiden Smith (220) and Henry Santana-Liriano (285) while Ruben Rivera (126), Jairo Ruiz (132) and Trevin Robledo-Thomspon (170) won by decision. J.J. Morse (138), Anthony Caisse (145), Brayden Soleau (182) and Jonathan Harms (195) record pins for the Vikings (10-8, 1-1).

    • Killingly defeated Waterford 46-33 in an ECC Division II match. Brody Ruest (120 pounds), Jacob Racicot (126), Devon Powers (170), Zachary Ruest (182) and Braeden Sollima (195) had pins for the Lancers (6-10, 0-2) while Lucas Bourez (138) earned a 9-5 decision.

    Boys’ hockey

    • Tri-Town beat the Eastern Connecticut Eagles, 7-1, in a Nutmeg Hockey Conference. Nick Rembish scored, Owen Pazzaglia and Ethan LoVetere each had an assist and Cam McCollum had 25 saves for the Eagles (4-5, 2-2).

    H.S. swimming

    • The Fitch co-op remained unbeaten with an 87-72 win over Waterford in an ECC meet on Tuesday. Jacob Lin and Evan Hespeler won two individual events apiece for the Falcons (3-0, 3-0), Lin winning the 200-meter freestyle (2:04.77) and 100 backstroke (1:02.62), and Hespeler capturing the 200 IM (2:33.97) and 100 free (1:00.68). Noah Westkott won the 50 free (28.66) and 100 breaststroke (1:23.39) for the Lancers (1-4, 1-2).
