Local roundup: Smith leads Avery Point to victory
Randolph Center, Vt. ‐ Niantic’s Adeline Smith scored 37 points and had 14 rebounds as the Avery Point women’s basketball team beat Vermont Tech 62-57 on Sunday.
Former Fitch standout Francesca Foster had 11 points and 13 rebounds and former Wheeler standout Adelaide Hauptmann had 15 rebounds and six assists for the Pointers (7-8).
H.S. girls’ hockey
• The Woodstock Academy co-op lost to the Mercy co-op 4-2 on Saturday. Maci Corradi and Keynila Hochard scored for Woodstock (3-8-1) off assists from Wheeler’s Sophia Gouveia, East Lyme’s Mia Williamson and Norwich Tech’s Caitlyn Flynn.
H.S. gymnastics
• NFA dropped a pair of Eastern Connecticut Conference matches on Saturday. Killingly finished with 136.4, Woodstock was second with 132.65 and NFA scored 131.1. Freshman Trinity Ambruso of NFA (2-2, 1-2) finished third in the all-around as she tied for second in vault (9.3), was second in beam (9.4) and third on both bars (9.1) and on the floor (9.3).
H.S. fencing
• New London beat Waterford (5-4), Ledyard (6-3) and Old Lyme (7-2) in the epee in a quad-meet on Saturday. New London also beat Ledyard (7-2) and Waterford (5-4) in the foil. Ledyard beat Old Lyme (5-4), Old Lyme beat Waterford (6-3) and Waterford beat Ledyard (5-4) in the epee. Waterford also beat Ledyard in the foil, 7-2.
In a girls’ quad-meet, Ledyard beat Old Lyme (5-4) and Waterford (5-4) in the epee while Waterford beat Old Lyme (5-4). In the foil, Waterford beat Ledyard (7-2) and New London (5-4) and New London beat Ledyard (7-2).
