    College roundup: CGA women roll to 75-54 win over NEC

    New London — Jacqueline Ward had 22 points, four rebounds and three assists as Coast Guard Academy rolled to a 75-54 non-conference women’s basketball victory over New England College on Saturday.

    Julia Mann had 14 points and 11 rebounds for the Bears (10-9) while Kelly Hagerty had 10 points and five rebounds and Kira Wood scored 10. Ericka Pratt had 12 points and 19 rebounds for the Pilgrims (7-10).

    In other games:

    • Mitchell College rallied from a nine-point deficit in the fourth quarter and went on to post an 85-70 overtime victory over Eastern Nazarene in the New England Colllegiate Conference. All five starters scored in double figures for the Mariners (10-9, 3-0). Amina Wiley led the way with 28 points, 16 rebounds and five assists while Ne’Jae White had 14 points and 11 rebounds, Yasmine Santos 13 points and 11 rebounds, Sam McKenna 13 points and Dede Stevenson 10 points, 11 rebounds and five assists.

    • Massasoit Community College outscored UConn Avery Point 46-17 in the second half to overcome a seven-point halftime deficit and beat the Pointers 76-54. Adeline Smith scored 20 points to lead Avery Point (7-9) while Francesca Foster added 13 points and 10 rebounds and Addie Hauptmann had 13 rebounds.

    Men’s basketball

    • Ty Murphy scored a game-high 19 points as Wheaton downed Coast Guard 99-60 in the New England Men’s and Women’s Athletic Conference. Aaron Williams had 10 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks for Wheaton (10-8, 5-3) and Alex Carlisle added 18 points, five assists and three steals. Trevor Parks had 15 points and five rebounds, Elijah Parent scored 13 and Declan Rooney scored 12 for the Bears (4-14, 2-6).

    • UConn Avery Point fell to 1-18 with a 119-64 loss to Massasoit CC. Jason Cohen scored 25 points for the Pointers while Elijah Botnick added 17 and Evan Childs had 10 points and 11 rebounds.

    Men’s hockey

    • Jake Johnson scored the go-ahead goal with 15:29 left in the third period as Quinnipiac rallied past UConn, 4-3, to win the CT Ice Tournament championship. Ethan de Jong had two goals and an assist for Quinnipiac (20-3-3), which trailed 3-2 after two periods. Justin Pearson had a goal and an assist for the Huskies (16-8-3) while Samu Salminen and Hudson Schandor both scored.

    • Jonah Gold had a goal and an assist as Williams shut out Connecticut College 4-0 in a New England Small College Athletic Conference game. Kellen Beauton had 34 saves for Conn (2-15-0, 0-12-0).

    Women’s hockey

    • Alana Burm scored the go-ahead goal at 12:12 of the second period to give Conn College a 2-1 win over Middlebury in a NESCAR game. Serena Seiple added a goal, Casey Chesner and Kiley Smith each had an assist and Abby Wieczorek had 20 saves for the Camels (9-7-1, 6-5-1).

    Men’s swimming

    • Justin Finkel won the 100-yard butterfly (51.53 seconds), the 200 butterfly (1:52.10) and the 100 freestyle (47.69) as Conn College beat Wesleyan 183.5-106.5 in the NESCAC. The Camels won 12 of the 16 events and are ranked 16th nationally in the CSCAA Top 25 Division III poll.

    Women’s swimming

    • Wesleyan beat Conn College 159-136 in the NESCAC. Kate Edison won the 200 backstroke (2:10.22) and 200 individual medley (2:14.39) for Conn while Hannah Guay won the 500 freestyle (5:16.42) and 1,000 freestyle (10:52.56).
