    Local roundup: Risley leads Stonington to victory

    Stonington — Rory Risley had 20 points for Stonington in a 59-54 victory Thursday over Eastern Connecticut Conference Division III leader Windham, moving the Bears to within a game of the Whippets in the division.

    Emily Obrey added 19 points and Katelyn Cadmus had 13 for Stonington (6-10 overall, 4-2 in the division).

    The Bears led 42-28 after three quarters but had to hold off a 3-point barrage by Windham in the fourth quarter. The Whippets made four 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to outscore Stonington 26-17.

    In other games:

    • Kiera Kirvan scored 12 points and had nine rebounds as Ledyard beat Killingly 46-34 in an ECC Division II game. Monet Augmon and Helena Robinson had eight points each for the Colonels (10-7, 4-3).

    • Norwich Free Academy beat Woodstock Academy 39-23 in an ECC Division I game. Emily Orcutt scored 16 points for NFA (8-9, 4-2).

    • Abby Matheson and Natalie Becotte scored 13 points each as Griswold beat Montville 46-38 in an ECC Division III game. Kierra Nielson had 10 points for Griswold (5-10, 2-4). Jada Cheung led Montville (2-14, 0-7) with 17 points.

    • Makayla Delzer had 10 points and 12 rebounds as Wheeler beat Tourtellotte 40-14 in an ECC Division IV game. Hayden Bresnan had 10 points for the Lions (4-10, 2-5).

    • Branford beat Waterford 70-54 in a nonleague game. Lucy Walker had 18 points, Julia Knowles scored 13 and Jennie Macca-Barnes had 10 points for Waterford (5-11). Lyra Clifford led Branford with 21 points.

    H.S. boys’ basketball

    • Charis Johnson scored 22 points as Grasso Tech beat Vinal Tech 66-37. Caleb Brennan had 13 points for the Eagles (5-8).

    • Luke Grimond scored 21 points to help lead Bacon Academy to a 59-32 win over Old Saybrook in a nonleague game. Elijah Black had 14 points and Keegan Appleby scored 12 for the Bobcats (8-8), who qualified for the state tournament with the win.

    • Malaki Mercado and Bradley Saint Louis each scored 20 as Norwich Tech celebrated Senior Night with a 67-49 win over Ellis Tech in a Connecticut Technical Conference Charter Oak Division game. Jack Gahrman scored 12 for Norwich Tech (4-12), which outscored the Eagles 43-21 over the second and third quarters.

    On Wednesday night, Norwich Tech lost to Tourtellotte 63-48 in a nonleague game. Josh Hanks and Daniel Hess had 12 points each and Jack Gahrman scored 10 for Norwich Tech (3-12).

    H.S. riflery

    • Grasso Tech won the Connecticut Technical Conference regular-season title and the Mohegan/Pequot Division title with a 868-856 win over Vinal Tech. Charles Goode led the Eagles (6-0) with a score of 176 (out of 200).

    Also scoring for Grasso were Nutaunis Brown (174), Aaron Trotochaud (173), Colt Burgess (173) and Elora Loos (172). The Eagles will compete in the state championship on Feb. 22 in Wallingford.

    H.S. wrestling

    • Ledyard had three pins en route to a 56-24 win over Putnam on Wednesday. Josiah Estriplet (113 pounds), Noah Jones (126) and Ryan Taggart (138) had pins for the Colonels (8-11) while teammates Tatianna Irizarry (106) and Linda Holeman (132) also won their matches.

    Girls’ hockey

    • Three local players helped the Woodstock Academy cooperative program defeat the Fairfield co-op 6-0 Wednesday night at the Pomfret School. Norwich Tech’s Caitlyn Flynn and East Lyme’s Mia Williamson each had a goal and two assists while Wheeler’s Sophia Gouveia also scored a goal. Woodstock freshman Maci Corradi led the Centaurs with two goals an an assist.

    Men’s basketball

    • Waterford’s Mikey Buscetto scored 20 points with six assists as Mitchell College beat SUNY Purchase 77-63 for its sixth straight win. Alfonzo Stokes had 16 points and five rebounds, New London’s Jalen Benson had 11 points and five rebounds and Ahmani Browne had eight points and seven rebounds for the Mariners (16-3).
