    Local roundup: Bransford lifts Wheeler baseball past Windham

    Willimantic — Deondre Bransford had two hits, including a double, with three runs and two RBI in Wheeler’s 11-2 baseball win over Windham on Tuesday.

    Bradin Anderson allowed two hits and an earned run over six innings to earn the win, Mason Perkins had two hits and two RBI, James Main had two hits, including a double, and scored twice and Kyle Kessler hit an RBI double and scored for the Lions (2-0).

    In other games:

    • Joe Basso hit a bases-clearing double to highlight an eight-run fourth inning and Ryan Ziegler pitched a two-hitter with seven strikeouts as St. Bernard beat Killingly 10-0 in five innings. Bryce Morrissette scored twice, Martin Light had a single and two runs and Kevin Poeschl had two hits and an RBI for the Saints (2-0). Also, Anthony Demarco had a single, a run and an RBI and Ethan Chavez and Chris Tonucci both singled and scored.

    • Aaron Lopresto went 4-for-5, including a double, with three RBI and two runs as Stonington beat Fitch 10-7 on Monday. Finn Eck went 2-for-3, including a triple, with a run and RBI, Dylan Cimini had two hits, two RBI and a run, Austin Linicus singled with two runs and an RBI and Alex Starr added two hits, a run and an RBI for the Bears. Jack Ballou went 2-for-3, including a home run, with three runs and two RBI, Dom Zuliani had two hits, a run and an RBI, Isaac Frank doubled and scored and Isaiah Anderson had a double and an RBI for the Falcons

    Boys’ golf

    • Josh Lavender shot a 41 and Joshua James a 46 for Norwich Tech in its 186-210 win over Grasso Tech in the Connecticut Technical Conference. Jack Gahrman shot a 48 and Chase Nicholas a 51 for Norwich Tech. Nathan Sylvestre shot a 51 and Ian Main a 53 for the Eagles.

    • Brandon Tavares earned medalist honors with a 36 as Stonington downed Waterford 7-0 in in Eastern Connecticut Conference Division II match. Ethan Torres shot a 40 and Cameron O’Connor a 44 for Stonington. Jacob Beardsley shot a 38 and Lucas Vincenti a 48 for the Lancers.

    • John Howe and Costa Kapilotis both shot a 44 for NFA in its 7-0 win over Fitch in an ECC Division I match. Max Weston and Nick Wigfield both shot a 46 for NFA. Charlie Bergendahl shot a 58 for the Falcons.

    H.S. girls’ tennis

    • Mara Wolff, Avni Kabra, Avery Rindell and Donna Park all won in straight sets for East Lyme in its 7-0 triumph over the Windham/Windham Tech co-op. The doubles teams of Riddhi Bansal-Addison Kan, Gracie Davis-Nina McKiernan and Jayden Price-Lilah Hart added wins for the Vikings.

    • Killingly beat New London 5-2 on Monday. Cashel Jones won her singles match for New London while Nakayla Issac-Delande Forestal won at doubles.

    H.S. boys’ tennis

    • Ian Balfour, Cristos Matsas, Peter Colonis and Noah Westkott all had singles wins for Waterford in its 7-0 win over New London. The doubles teams of Quinn LeBelle-Louis Dhervilly, Alistair Haglund-Andrew Bertrand and Colton Murch-Adam Balfour didn’t drop a point for the Lancers (1-1).

    • Jack Giurleo, Brendan Duhamel, Benny Wu and Matt Malbaurn won in straight sets for Montville in its 7-0 win over Lyman Memorial in Monday’s ECC Division III match. Jack Bowman-Nathan Dhillon, Ryan Yang-Danny Zhong and Ryan Hochdorfer-Zach Thomas won at doubles for Montville.

    College baseball

    • Joaquin Brasher pitched 3.1 innings of relief with five strikeouts and an earned run to earn his first win of the season as Avery Point beat CCRI 10-8. Zach Mascaro had a home run and four RBI for the Pointers (12-6) and Tyler Rice and Andrew Lozier each added a home run.

    • Michael O’Brien’s walk-off double scored Michael Cook and gave Babson a 2-1 win over Coast Guard in a New England Men’s and Women’s Athletic Conference contest. Blake George’s RBI single scored Charles Red and for Coast Guard (6-11, 0-3) and starter Harrison Milbert scattered five hits over seven innings with an earned run and two strikeouts.

    • Cole Hage went 4-for-5, including two home runs, with six RBI and four runs as Columbia rallied from an early 12-run deficit to top UConn 19-14. Dominic Freeberger had two hits, three runs and two RBI, Korey Morton had a home run and five RBI and Bryan Padilla hit a two-run home run and scored twice for the Huskies (20-7).

    College softball

    • Aziah James and Grace Jenkins both went 2-for-3, including a double, with three RBI and two runs as UConn downed Fairfield 13-1 in five innings. Jana Sanden had a two-run home run and three RBI while Haley Coupal went 2-for-3, including a two-run double, and two RBI for the Huskies (21-10).

    • Hannah Docktor went a combined 6-for-8, including two doubles, with four runs and two RBI as Wesleyan swept Mitchell 11-3, 9-8. Gemma Landry tripled and scored twice in the opener for Mitchell (10-8) while Brooke Whitmarsh went 3-for-4, including a double, with two runs and an RBI in the second game and Emma LaBreck went 3-for-4, including a double, with three RBI and a run.

    H.S. boys’ volleyball

    • Innovation beat Norwich Tech on Monday 25-16, 26-24, 25-14. Tenzin Samten had five kills and four digs for Norwich Tech.
