    H.S. track & field: Ledyard boys win Runnin’ Rams Invitational

    Old Saybrook — Ledyard had three individual champions to capture the Runnin’ Rams Invitational track and field meet on Friday at Old Saybrook High School.

    The Colonels finished with 94.5 points to beat Plainville (73) for the team title.

    Sacred Heart edged Old Saybrook 79.5-72 to win the girls’ championship with East Lyme and Old Lyme tying for third with 55 points.

    Ledyard’s three wins in the boys’ meet were by Auguste Estriplet in the 800-meter race (2 minutes, 3.35 seconds), Jame Green in the long jump (20 feet) and Christian Wiltshire in the high jump (6 feet).

    Other top three finishers for the Colonels were Gabriel Huff in the 1,600 (2nd, 4:33.91), Jamel Kearse in the long jump (2nd, 19-11), Jacob Lenz in the 100 dash (tie for 3rd, 11.32 seconds) and the 4x400 relay team of Estriplet, Mason Day, Huff and Hayden Baber (2nd, 3:40.18).

    Other local boys’ winners were Old Lyme’s Jacob Volkerts in the 100 (11.07), Griswold’s Michael Strain in the 1,600 (4:32.16), Bacon Academy’s Jake Martino in the discus (133-1), Waterford’s Evan Piotrowski in the 200 (22.60) and Griswold’s 4x800 relay team of Jacob Strain, Maxwell Brown, Jackson Collins and Michael Strain (8:42.64).

    Other local second-place winners were Waterford’s Elliot Childs in the 110 high hurdles (15.64), Stonington’s Anders Dahl in the 800 (2:03.38), Bacon’s Martino in the javelin (149-8) and Old Lyme’s Volkerts in the 200 (23.07), while thirds went to Lyman Memorial’s Nicholas Zaprianov in the 300 intermediate hurdles (43.39), Griswold’s Jacob Strain in the 800 (2:03.53), Waterford’s Childs in the long jump (19-9.5), Old Lyme’s Stefan Ryer in the shot put (41-5) and Waterford’s Jonathan Booth in the triple jump (38-7.5).

    In the girls’ meet, Old Lyme freshman Chase Gilbert set a meet record in winning the 1,600 (4:59.97) while Lyman’s Emily McKelvey won the 100 (12.47), Ledyard’s Kate Littler won the 800 (2:21.40), Waterford’s Avery Maiese won the 3,200 (11:53.67) and Lyman’s 4x100 relay team of Gabriela Dinisoe, Ella Caplet, Leah Comeroski and Jenny Lopez won in 51.47.

    Second-place finishes went to Old Lyme’s Zoe Eastman-Grossel in the 300 hurdles (49.04), Old Lyme’s Maddie Morgado in the 800 (2:25.06), Old Lyme’s Margaret Thuma in the discus (96-5), East Lyme’s Lauren Hinckley in the triple jump (34-2) and Ledyard’s 4x400 relay of Margaret Dykes, Megan Armstrong, Ella Stephenson and Littler (4:14.29), while thirds went to Eastman-Grossel in the 100 hurdles (16.15), Waterford’s Colleen Corman in the 300 hurdles (51.36), Ledyard’s Stephenson in the 800 (2:26.44), Stonington’s Peyton Vanderstreet in the 3,200 (12:09.02), East Lyme’s Jayla Washington in the long jump (16-4), Ledyard’s Linda Holeman in the javelin (100-9), East Lyme’s Sophia Seguin in the triple jump (33-11.5) and Old Lyme’s 4x400 relay of Morgado, Alyssa Spooner, Kathleen Walsh and Livy Powers (4:18.17).

    Glenn Loucks Games

    • Stonington’s Josh Mooney won a pair of events at the prestigious Glenn Loucks Games in White Plains, N.Y. The UConn-bound senior captured the 110 high hurdles in 14.08 seconds, the third fastest time in meet history, and won the javelin with a throw of 186-11. Teammate Ryan Gruczka finished 12th in the 800 (1:55.88) and 18th in the mile (4:19.74).

    Greater Hartford Invite

    • Fitch’s 4x100-meter relay team of Charlie Tarbox, Nymyal Gamboa, Oakley Garrison and Adonis Fine captured first-place honors at the Greater Hartford Invitational at East Hartford High School, finishing in 43.50 seconds. Tarbox also added a sixth in the 200 (23.26) while Charles Cabusao finished fifth in the javelin (147-5) and Zayshawn Griffin was sixth in the triple jump (40-7.75).
