    H.S. tennis: Stonington boys cruise into Class S semifinals with 7-0 victory over Granby

    Stonington — Third-seeded Stonington advanced to the semifinals of the CIAC Class S boys’ tennis tournament with a 7-0 quarterfinal victory over No. 6 Granby on Tuesday.

    The Bears (17-1) will host No. 15 East Catholic, a 4-3 quarterfinal winner over No. 7 Old Lyme, on Wednesday at 2 p.m. with the winner advancing to Thursday’s championship match at Wesleyan University in Middletown at 9 a.m.

    Stonington didn’t drop a set in dispatching Granby as Brady O’Neil, Matthew Turrisi, Chase Donnarummo and Jackson Conlon rolled to singles victories (Donnarummo pulled out a tight 7-5, 7-5 win at No. 3 singles) along with the doubles teams of Conrad Tobiassen-Tucker Callahan, Sam Lund-Joshua Lord and Owen Grant-Peter Schoencker.

    Girls

    • Defending champion Stonington cruised into the Class M semifinals with a 7-0 win over No. 10 Watertown in the quarterfinals. The Bears (14-1) will host No. 3 Weston, a 7-0 winner over No. 6 Woodland, on Wednesday at 5 p.m. for a spot in Thursday’s 11 a.m. final at Wesleyan University in Middletown. Grace Duggan, Marcella Hamm, Maddie Gonzalez and Emily Fulling swept the singles without losing a set as did the doubles teams of Katya Snegovskikh-Lauren Buckley, Marina and Misha Lewandowski and Gwen McGugan-Angelina Williams.

    • Old Lyme’s four singles players did not lose as single game as the top-seeded and two-time defending Class S champions defeated No. 8 St. Paul 7-0 in the quarterfinals. Sam Tan, Elaine Morosky, Callie Bass and Katherine Zhange were all 6-0, 6-0 winners for the Wildcats (21-0), who won their 64th straight match and will host No. 4 Litchfield, a 4-3 winner over No. 5 Holy Cross in Wednesday’s semifinals at 2 p.m. Old Lyme’s doubles teams of Livie Bass-Alexis Fenton, Aggie and Beatrice Hunt and Izzy Reynolds-Natalie Buckley were all straight-set winners.
