    H.S. tennis: Stonington (boys and girls) and Old Lyme girls to play for state titles on Thursday

    Stonington — The Stonington girls’ tennis team beat No. 3 Weston, it’s long-time nemesis, 5-2 in the CIAC Class M girls’ tennis tournament semifinals on Wednesday.

    The No. 2 Bears (16-1) will face No. 9 Hand for the title at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Wesleyan University in Middletown. Stonington beat Hand 5-2 on May 12 and also beat Hand 6-1 in last year’s M final.

    Hand beat No. 5 Nonnewaug 6-1 in the other semifinal.

    Grace Duggan, Maddie Gonzlez and Emily Fulling were straight set winners in singles, while No. 2 Marcella Hamm (illness) lost by default. Sisters Marina Lewandowski and Misha Lewandowski won at No. 2 doubles and Gwen Mcgugan and Angelia Williams won at No. 3 doubles.

    In other matches:

    • Old Lyme advanced to its third straight Class S title match with a 7-0 win over No. 4 Litchfield. The top-ranked Wildcats (22-0) will face Shoreline Conference rival Westbrook in the final at 9 a.m. on Thursday at Wesleyan University. Old Lyme, the two-time defending S champion, has won 65 straight matches.

    Westbrook, which lost to Old Lyme 7-0 on April 14, beat No. 6 Shepaug Valley 4-3 in the other semifinal. Sam Tan, Elaina Morosky, Callie Bass and Katherine Zhang won in straight sets, with Morosky winning 7-6 (5), in the second set.

    The doubles teams of Livie Bass-Alexis Fenton, Aggie Hunt-Beatrice Hunt and Izzy Reynolds-Natalie Buckley won in straight sets, dropping just three games.

    Boys

    • Stonington rolled into the Class S championship match with a 7-0 win over No. 15 East Catholic in the CIAC semifinals. It will be the first finals appearance (the CIAC team tournament began in 2021) for Stonington.

    The No. 3 Bears will play No. 4 Nonnewaug at 9 a.m. on Thursday at Wesleyan University. Nonnewaug beat No. 9 Suffield 4-3 in the other semifinal.

    The win came in dominant fashion as Brady O’Neil, Matthew Turrisi, Chase Donnarummo and Jackson Conlon swept singles play, dropping only seven games. The doubles teams of Conrad Tobiassen-Tucker Callahan (6-1, 6-1), Sam Lund-Joshua Lord (6-1, 6-2) and Owen Grant-Peter Schoenecker (8-1, pro set) were equally dominant.
