Local roundup: Schooners beat Martha’s Vineyard 8-2 in NECBL
Norwich — Jack Goodman’s two-run double in the eighth inning broke open a tight game as the Mystic Schooners defeated the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks 8-2 in a New England Collegiate Baseball League game on Monday night at Dodd Stadium.
Caleb Shpur (Endicott) also had an RBI single in the eighth for the Schooners (21-12), who bounced back after the Sharks (12-18-1) scored both of their runs in the top of the first.
Goodman (Pepperdine) finished with two hits and three RBI for Mystic as did Drew Kron (UConn), who added a two-run single and RBI single.

• NECBL fans will have an opportunity to pick the final member of the East Division All-Star team for Sunday’s NECBL All-Star Game at Fraser Field in Lynn, Mass., home of the North Shore Navigators.
The list of pre-determined players includes Mystic Schooners right-handed pitcher Brandon Smith (Florida Atlantic). Visit vote23.necbl.com to cast your vote. Voting concludes Thursday at 11:59 p.m., and the final pick will be announced on Friday.
NECBL All-Star festivities begin at 2 p.m. with the Home Run Derby, followed by the game at 4:30 p.m.
Section 3 LL baseball (10-12)
• Six pitchers combined to allow only two hits as host East Lyme began play in the Connecticut Section 3 Little League (10-12) tournament with a 9-1 win over District 7 champion West Hartford.
Greyson Biggs and Benny Perkins each had doubles for the District 10 champion, who can advance to Thursday’s Section 3 final with a win over District 9 champion Madison on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
FCBL
• Andrew Bianco (New Haven) hit a three-run homer to highlight a nine-run eighth inning as the Norwich Sea Unicorns, after allowing six runs in the bottom of the seventh, rallied for a 13-8 road win over the Nashua Silver Knights in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League.
Waterford’s Ben Jerome (Nichols) had a bases-loaded walk that inning while Zack Kovalchik (Sacred Heart) added a two-run single. Kovalchik finished with three hits and scored twice for the Sea Unicorns (30-16), who moved within 1.5 games of the first-place Worcester Bravehearts (31-14), who were idle. Nashua is 15-28.
