    Local roundup: East Lyme LL loses to force deciding game on Monday

    Trumbull — East Lyme’s bid at the state Little League baseball title was denied Sunday during a 5-3 loss to Shelton in the championship round at Unity Park.

    The loss forced a winner-take-all championship game Monday at 6 p.m. The winner advances to the New England Regional in Bristol.

    Ethan Chantrell struck out eight over five innings for East Lyme, while Kyle Cellemme hit an RBI double. Jayson Tejada, Eoin Hanafin, John Roberts and Blake Gianakos all had hits for East Lyme.

    • The Norwich Sea Unicorns beat the New Britain Bees 2-1 in a Futures Collegiate Baseball League game which was the conclusion of Saturday’ night’s suspended game. The game was stopped in the top of the sixth inning by rain on Saturday.

    Brad Lewis (Bryant) got one out to each and win and Matt Wootton (UConn) pitched the final four innings for a save, striking out five with no walks. Dean Ferrara (Fairfield) singled and doubled and Tyler Minick (UConn) had two hits for Norwich.

    In the scheduled game, the Bees beat the Sea Unicorns 9-5. Waterford’s Ben Jerome (Nichols) drove in two runs, CJ Egrie (Holy Cross) scored twice and Matthew Bucciero (Fairfield) had two hits for Norwich (32-21).
