    Local roundup: Kishorn joins Mitchell staff as associate AD

    New London — Ashley Kishorn has been named associate director of athletics and senior woman administrator at Mitchell College, athletic director Matt Finlayson announced on Thursday.

    Kishorn joins the Mariners’ athletic program after spending six years at Eastern Mennonite in Harrisonburg, Virginia, where she was both an administrator and the head field hockey coach.

    At Mitchell, Kishorn will oversee all internal operations in the athletic department, which features 12 varsity sports, and will also serve as the compliance coordinator and Title IX Deputy.

    “We are excited to welcome Ashley Kishorn to the Mitchell College community,” Finlayson said in a release. “This is a pivotal leadership role for athletics and Ashley’s combination of coaching, playing and administrative experience at the Division III level will have a positive impact for the college.”

    Kishorn is a graduate of Salisbury University, where she was a member of the 2009 NCAA Division III national championship field hockey team, and earned her masters in Educational Leadership at Lynchburg College.

    Prior to arriving at Eastern Mennonite, she held assistant field hockey coaching jobs at Williams College, Lynchburg and Wilson College (Pa.).

    “I am thrilled to join Mitchell College athletics,” Kishorn said. “Matt's enthusiasm and vision for the growth of Mitchell athletics inspired me to take the position. My coaching background has led me to pursue a leadership role in athletics, and this experience has prepared me to serve student-athletes, coaches, staff and the campus community. I am excited to experience life on the Connecticut coast.”

    Men’s lacrosse

    • Connor Grippe has been named assistant coach at Connecticut College, head coach Jim Nagle announced. Grippe joins the Camels after spending the last two years as a graduate assistant coach at St. Leo University in Tampa, Fla. He served as offensive coordinator for the Lions in addition to assisting in recruiting, travel planning, scouting and game planning.

    "We are thrilled to have Connor join our coaching staff,” Nagle said. “He is a great young coach who has exceptional character and coaching talent. He is going to have an immediate positive impact on our program."

    Grippe, a native of Setauket, N.Y., played lacrosse at Division I Stony Brook, where he was a two-year captain and had 40 goals and 18 assists in 59 career games, graduating in 2020. He earned his masters at St. Leo in 2023.

    NECBL

    • Five members of the Mystics Schooners were named to the 2023 New England Collegiate Baseball League All-League team. Third baseman Anthony DePino (Rhode Island) and closer Jay Allmer (Seton Hall) made the second team while outfielder Mike Bello (Auburn) and starting pitchjers Everett Catlett (Georgetown) and Brandon Smith (Florida Atlantic) were honorable mention selections.
