H.S. roundup: NFA names Jamieson new baseball coach

Norwich — Mike Jamieson, who spent three seasons as head baseball coach at Griswold High School, was named to the same position at Norwich Free Academy on Monday.

Jamieson replaces Anthony Turgeon, who resigned following the 2023 season to spend more time to his family.

“Mike is ready to lead our program,” NFA athletic director Roy Wentworth said in a release. “He knows the game, has a track record of success and, more importantly, he knows our kids. I know how important this is to him, and I appreciate his work that will take place both on the diamond and in the classroom.”

Jamieson, who has taught science at NFA since 2008, also served as Turgeon’s assistant for the last three seasons.

During his three seasons at Griswold, the Wolverines won two Eastern Connecticut Conference divisional titles and made the state tournament all three years. His 2018 team also won the ECC Sportsmanship Award given by the league umpires. Five of his players from those three years also went on to play in college.

“A history of successful coaching and unwavering effort is the most valuable thing I bring to this program,” Jamieson said in the release. “I will always be the most dedicated person on the field, and I refuse to be underprepared or outworked. That said, I am not just in the business of winning games. I am committed to teaching, mentoring and serving our student athletes to help them achieve their highest academic, athletic and personal potential.”
